Folder vs Cyberduck
Cyberduck is a window you browse and transfer in; Folder is a folder in Finder. Both reach Cloudflare R2. This compares Folder in your Cloudflare; a folder on Folder needs no R2 at all.
Pick FolderYour files are in Cloudflare R2, and you want them in Finder and on the web, opening in the apps you already use, with every version kept.
Pick CyberduckYou need more than R2: servers and many kinds of cloud storage, Windows, or nothing to pay.
| Cyberduck | Folder, in your Cloudflare | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A window you browse and transfer in | A folder in Finder, the Files app and the web |
| Connects to | Servers and many kinds of cloud storage, R2 among them | Your Cloudflare R2 buckets |
| Signs in with | An R2 access key and your account's endpoint | Your Cloudflare sign-in; you pick the buckets |
| A deleted file comes back | R2 keeps no history of its own | Every overwrite and delete kept |
| Price | Free and open source, under the GPL | Cloudflare's bill, usually $0 |
| Runs on | Mac and Windows; a command line for Linux too | Mac and the web; the iPhone app is not in the App Store yet |
Cyberduck
Cyberduck calls itself “a libre server and cloud storage browser for Mac and Windows”. It opens storage in a window of its own; to see storage in Finder, its makers sell Mountain Duck.
Moving From Cyberduck
The buckets stay where they are. Get Folder for Mac, choose In Your Cloudflare, sign in to Cloudflare and tick the buckets you open in Cyberduck. Each appears in Finder under Locations, and Cyberduck keeps working beside it.
